This website has been designed to tell you about the practice and the services
that we offer. WELCOME TO THE CHELTENHAM ROAD SURGERYWe aim to provide high quality family medicine in an open, friendly environment. This website will describe the practice team and the services we can offer you.
The surgery has been providing medical care to the local community since 1930. As we have grown and developed, we have retained the best of a traditional family practice whilst ensuring that we can provide the highest quality primary care from our extensively modernised and well equipped surgery. There are five clinical rooms on the first floor with disabled access via a lift. There is wheelchair access to the building and there is ample parking space for patients at the front and rear of the surgery. The doctors practise together as a non-limited partnership. We have a full Primary Health Care Team with District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives and Community Psychiatric Nurses. We pride ourselves on good communication and teamwork enabling us to provide quality care for all ages. The surgery is openMonday to Friday 8.30am - 12.45pm & 1.45 - 6.30pm The surgery is closedOn Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays Consultation timesMonday to Friday 9.00 - 11.00am, 2.00 - 4.00pm & 4.00 - 6.00pm Freedom Of Information - Publication SchemeThe Freedom of Information Act 2000 obliges the practice to produce a Publication Scheme. A Publication Scheme is a guide to the ‘classes’ of information the practice intends to routinely make available. The Protection and Use Of Patient Information at Cheltenham Road SurgeryWe ask you for information about yourself so that you can receive proper care and treatment. We keep this information,
together with details of your care, because it may be needed if we see you again.
We may use some of this information for other reasons, for example, to help us
protect the health of the public generally and to see that the NHS runs efficiently,
plans for the future, trains its staff, pays its bills and can account for its
actions. Information may also be needed to help educate clinical staff in training
and to carry out medical and other health research for the benefit of everyone.
Sometimes the law requires us to pass on information, for example, to notify
a birth. The NHS Central Register for England and Wales contains basic personal
details of all patients registered with a general practitioner. The register
does not contain clinical information. Violent or Abusive BehaviourViolent or abusive behaviour by a patient will not be tolerated and will result in the police being summoned. If a patient is habitually violent and/or abusive, they may be referred to the Vaughan Centre in Gloucester, a special surgery for violent persons, and from which no home visits will be possible. Practice News and Notices
PRACTICE MANAGER. Philip Tagg is the Practice Manager. TRAINEE DOCTORS. As a training practice we are able to train up to 3 doctors at any one time. Doctor Sasha Bennett has been with us since August 2011 and Dr Clara Martinez joins us in April to replace Dr Sarah Macrow. OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY - 24 MAY 2012
The Olympic torch relay route will come close to the Cheltenham Road Surgery on Thursday 24 May 2012, having travelled from the centre of There will be congestion on, and closures of, some roads along the entire route. Accordingly, patients should allow appropriate time to reach the surgery for their appointments. FLU VACCINATION 2012 The Seasonal Flu day for 2012 will be on Saturday 13 October at Milestone School. The appointments book will be open from 1 June. We ask that all those who are over 65 years and/or in the at risk groups expecting to be vaccinated make it a priority to book in to this clinic, and not wait for later clinics at the surgery. This will help us to avoid using up appointments that are needed for other health concerns. YELLOW FEVER VACCINATIONS Cheltenham Road Surgery is a designated Yellow Fever Centre able to vaccinate anyone who cannot be vaccinated at their own surgery. The charge is currently £50.00. Yellow Fever Vaccinations will be given in the Travel Clinic, by appointment, on Wednesday evenings starting at about 6.30pm. For details of the Travel Clinic see below. Exceptionally, we may be able to fit travellers who cannot attend one of these clinics or are needing vaccination at short notice, into an appointment outside clinic hours. TRAVEL CLINIC Dr Ellis with sister Julie Hewitt-Stubbs, runs travel clinics for back packers and those with more than usually complex itineries from 6.30pm most Wednesdays. He and nurse Julie Hewitt-Stubbs are also available to give general travel advice (including malaria prophylaxis), travel vaccinations and guidance on the purchase of insect repellent, mosquito nets, needle and medical packs, and suntan cream from our surgery shop. It is helpful for those seeking a travel consultation to arrive early for their appointment, to allow time for a risk assessment form to be completed in order that safe and complete advice can be given to travellers. Payment for services can be in cash, by cheque or bank/credit card. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE Dr Champion and Dr Roberts have a special interest and qualification in Occupational Health Medicine. We provide a service to companies who do not have their own Occupational Health Physician. Dr Champion is also a member of the Gloucestershire Occupational Health Group which meets regularly to share experiences. The services we provide include: Pre-employment medicals and Pre-employment screening questionnaires FRIENDS OF CHELTENHAM ROAD SURGERY The Friends provide a link between our patients and the partners and staff at the surgery, and provide support and advice to the practice. Patients are encouraged to use the committe as a means of expressing their views , not only about the practice, but also about the way the practice may be affected by developments in the local area. Due to the hard work and astonishing success of the Friends committee, sufficient funds have been raised over recent years to purchase amongst other items,a sophisticated ECG machine,a 24Hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor, digital camera for dermatology, high quality ear thermometers, diagnostic kits, phlebotomy chair and computerised bpatient self booking in system. Even more impressively, as part of the new building project, The Friends raised £14,000 towards the cost of the lift! The Friends are keen to be in touch with as many of our patients as possible. Committee members to contact for further advice are:
Secretary - Monty Taynton - (01452 532570) You can contact the Friends Committee by email on friends.chelt.rd@gmail.com TELEPHONES Our digital telephone sytem we hope, has enabled patients to make appointments more quickly each morning. To enhance this process, patients are asked to take heed of the requirement not to call for test results before 10.00 each morning. REGISTRATIONS The practice list size is at capacity for the doctors and staff to manage the needs of our patients safely. We have, therefore, been forced to apply a strict ruling on the number and location of our patients. If patients move away from our practice area, we may, reluctantly, have to ask them to register with practice nearer to their homes. We understand the stress that this can bring to patients who have been with the surgery for many years, but we really have no choice in the matter. We try at all times to provide the best possible service to our patients. SUGGESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS
There may be times when patients feel that we should be aware of failings or that a constructive suggestion is warranted. We welcome advice and comment in our effort to maintain a high quality service to our patients. SUMMARY CARE RECORDS The summary care records of our patients are not currently linked up to the NHS spine. Our clinical system suppliers do not provide this facility at the moment. The practice would like to thank the various advertisers who have helped to produce this Website.
