WELCOME TO
THE CHELTENHAM
ROAD SURGERY
We aim to provide high quality family medicine in an open, friendly environment.
This website will describe the practice team and the services we can offer you.

The surgery has been providing medical care to the local community since 1930.
As we have grown and developed, we have retained the best of a traditional family
practice whilst ensuring that we can provide the highest quality primary care
from our extensively modernised and well equipped surgery. There are five clinical
rooms on the first floor with disabled access via a lift. There is wheelchair
access to the building and there is ample parking space for patients at the front
and rear of the surgery.
The doctors practise together as a non-limited partnership. We have a full
Primary Health Care Team with District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives and
Community Psychiatric Nurses. We pride ourselves on good communication and teamwork
enabling us to provide quality care for all ages.

Freedom

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 obliges the practice to produce a Publication Scheme. A Publication Scheme is a guide to the ‘classes’ of information the practice intends to routinely make available.
This scheme is available in the waiting room.
The
Protection and Use Of Patient Information at Cheltenham Road Surgery
We ask you for information about yourself
so that you can receive proper care and treatment.
We keep this information,
together with details of your care, because it may be needed if we see you again.
We may use some of this information for other reasons, for example, to help us
protect the health of the public generally and to see that the NHS runs efficiently,
plans for the future, trains its staff, pays its bills and can account for its
actions. Information may also be needed to help educate clinical staff in training
and to carry out medical and other health research for the benefit of everyone.
Sometimes the law requires us to pass on information, for example, to notify
a birth. The NHS Central Register for England and Wales contains basic personal
details of all patients registered with a general practitioner. The register
does not contain clinical information.
You have a right of access to your health records. There may
be a charge for this. Please enquire at reception for advice. For more information
visit www.foi-nhs.uk or www.glospct.nhs.uk
EVERYONE WORKING FOR THE NHS HAS A LEGAL DUTY TO KEEP INFORMATION ABOUT YOU CONFIDENTIAL.
You may be receiving care from other people as well as the NHS. So that we can
all work together for your benefit we may need to share some information about
you. We only ever use or pass on information about you if people have a genuine
need for it in your and everyone’s interests. Whenever we can we shall
remove details which identify you. The sharing of some types of very sensitive
personal information is strictly controlled by law. Anyone who receives information
from us is also under a legal duty to keep it confidential. If at any time you
would like to know more about how we use your information you can speak to the
practice manager, Simon Colbeck.
Violent or Abusive Behaviour
Violent or abusive
behaviour by a patient will not be tolerated and will result in the summoning
of the police and removal from the practice list.
FLU VACCINATION 2010
We have clinics for seasonal and swine flu vaccination, open for patients in the at risk groups. Those who have received an invitation to make an appointment for swine flu vaccination, are urged to do so as soon as possible. It is not yet certain who, other than those at clinical risk, will be offered vaccination against swine flu.
The Seasonal Flu day is likely to be on 9 October this year. Those in the at risk groups expecting to be vaccinated are asked to note the date, but also note that the venue may be at University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus.
YELLOW FEVER VACCINATIONS
Cheltenham Road Surgery is a designated Yellow Fever Centre able to vaccinate anyone who cannot be vaccinated at their own surgery. The charge is currently £50.00. Yellow Fever Vaccinations will be given in the Travel Clinic, by appointment, on Wednesday evenings starting at about 6.30pm. For details of the Travel Clinic see below. Exceptionally, we may be able to fit travellers who cannot attend one of these clinics or are needing vaccination at short notice, into an appointment outside clinic hours.
TRAVEL CLINIC.
Dr Ellis with sister Julie Hewitt-Stubbs, runs travel clinics for back packers and those with more than usually complex itineries from 6.30pm most Wednesdays. He and nurse Julie Hewitt-Stubbs are also available to give general travel advice (including malaria prophylaxis), travel vaccinations and guidance on the purchase of insect repellent, mosquito nets, needle and medical packs, and suntan cream from our surgery shop. It is helpful for those seeking a travel consultation to arrive early for their appointment, to allow time for a risk assessment form to be completed in order that safe and complete advice can be given to travellers. Payment for services can be in cash, by cheque or bank/credit card.

FRIENDS OF CHELTENHAM ROAD SURGERY
The Friends provide a link between our patients and the partners and staff at the surgery, and provide support and advice to the practice. Patients are encouraged to use the committe as a means of expressing their views , not only about the practice, but also about the way the practice may be affected by developments in the local area.
Due to the hard work and astonishing success of the Friends committee, sufficient funds have been raised over recent years to purchase amongst other items,a sophisticated ECG machine,a 24Hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor, digital camera for dermatology, high quality ear thermometers, diagnostic kits, phlebotomy chair and computerised bpatient self booking in system. Even more impressively, as part of the new building project, The Friends raised £14,000 towards the cost of the lift! The Friends are keen to be in touch with as many of our patients as possible. Committee members to contact for further advice are:
Chairman - Val Neary (01452-302717)
Treasurer - Frank Ward (01452-520667
Secretary - Monty Taynton ( 01452-302737 )
TELEPHONES
We have had a new digital telephone sytem installed, which we hope will enable patients to make appointments more quickly each morning. Pateints are asked to take heed of the requirement not to call for test results before 10.00 each morning.
REGISTRATIONS
The practice list size is at capacity for the doctors and staff to manage the needs of our patients safely. We have, therefore, been forced to apply a strict ruling on the number and location of our patients. If patients move away from our practice area, we may, reluctantly, have to ask them to register with practice nearer to their homes. We understand the stress that this can bring to patients who have been with the surgery for many years, but we really have no choice in the matter. We try at all times to provide the best possible service to our patients.
SUGGESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS
There may be times when patients feel that we should be aware of failings or that a constructive suggestion is warranted. We welcome advice and comment in our effort to maintain a high quality service to our patients.
